Store First joins Barnsley Homeless Christmas Shoebox Appeal

Posted —

We are delighted to announce our Barnsley centre is a drop off point for the Barnley Homeless Christmas Shoebox Appeal once again this year!

Organised by local resident Gemma Buckley, the appeal will once again aim to spread a little festive cheer among the city’s homeless population.

Gemma says: “Every Christmas, homeless people not only have to deal with the fact that they are homeless as well as other issues, but also have to deal with the “happy” part of the year, sometimes alone.

“I am appealing to YOU to give a small gift and a bit of hope to a homeless person in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. I also ask that you include a Christmas Card in each box.”

What can I donate?

Items suggested for donation include:

  • Gloves
  • Hats
  • Socks
  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrushes
  • Deodorant
  • Shower gel
  • Face wipes
  • Sweets
  • Packet soup
  • Drinks sachets
  • Ring pulled tins of food
  • No alcohol, sharp items or harmful substances are allowed.

Organisers ask anyone interested in joining the appeal to fill and decorate a box either for an adult male or female, choosing relevant gifts accordingly. Dogs can also be on the receiving end of a gift – if you wish to donate to a four-legged friend, you can include dog food, bowls, blankets, leads, toys, treats, coats or vouchers for a local pet shop.

Where can I drop it off?

Store First’s Barnsley centre is one of several drop off points for the appeal.

Our staff will also lend a helping hand to the appeal in other ways, by using their van to collect donations from other drop off points and community locations. We want to do everything we can to support this fantastic appeal.
