Meet the Team: Dave Marsden

This week, in our Meet the Team series, we sat down to speak to Store First Regional Manager, Dave Marsden, to find out a little bit more about who he is and what he does at Store First and beyond.

As always, we asked some serious questions, and some pretty daft ones, too...

What's your full name and job title?

Dave Marsden, Regional Manager.

Before working here, what was the most interesting job you had?

Back in the day, I was a fitness trainer, and I was responsible for the health and fitness classes for all the pregnant ladies, exercising at Cannons Health Club. That was pretty unusual.

If you could swap jobs with one person in the company, who would it be and why?

I used to be a Store Manager and I miss the daily interaction with the customers and the buzz of making a sale. So, if I had to swap, I'd go back to managing a store.

What 3 words best describe Store First?

Proactive, customer-focused, friendly.

What 3 words best describe you?

Approachable, family-orientated, sociable.

What’s the weirdest/most challenging thing you’ve ever had to do here?

The weirdest? That has to be when I had to complete an inventory of the sex toys that a delinquent customer had been keeping in a unit. That was certainly...unusual. The most challenging? Juggling the daily staff, building and customer issues that can arise in the region at any one time. You certainly can't rest on your laurels in this job. Not that I'd want to. Where would the fun be in that?

What's your favourite film and film quote?

My favourite film is The Godfather. My favourite quote from a film is from Bladerunner: All these moments will disappear, like tears in the rain.

What's your proudest moment at Store First?

The day I became Regional Manager.

What's an interesting, random fact about yourself?

I've never broken a bone and I've never spent a night in a hospital.

Do you have a work nickname? What is it?

If I do, I don't know it. And to be honest, I'd rather keep it that way.

What's your most embarrassing moment at work?

That has to be the time I drove away from a petrol station, in my company car, having filled up and forgotten to pay for the fuel. Being questioned by a Director over the incident, after a police warrant was issued and arrived at Head Office was pretty embarrassing, to say the least!

What's your favourite place to travel to?

Either Sicily or Canada.

How do you define success?

Being able to comfortably provide for my family.

Who would you choose to play you in the film of your life?

Daniel Craig or Tom Hardy - both would have to go bald for the part, of course - coolness personified, those two.

If you could be any person in history for a day, who would it be and why?

Elvis Presley, because he was rock and roll.

If you could interview any person in history, who would it be and why?

Adolf Hitler. Just to get inside his mind and try to understand why.

If you could only drink one drink for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Havana Club.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Medium rare Tomahawk steak.

If you could be an animal for a day, what would you be?

An eagle.

If you were stuck on an island and could only take 3 things with you, what would they be and why?

  1. Drinking water
  2. Electricity
  3. Sky TV

Who is your idol and why?

I don't have an idol. I don't believe in them.

What's your guilty pleasure?

Percy Pigs, from the Marks and Spencer food hall.

What's your favourite TV show?

The Sopranos.

What's the oldest thing in your fridge?

The bulb.

Do you have any weird phobias?

I hate deep water. I wouldn't want to swim in the deep sea.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Time travel. To go back in time at the drop of a hat would be pretty cool.
