In the latest of our Meet the Team feature, we sat down with Alice, our Manchester store manager, for a good old natter. Read on to find out about Alice and what she does here at Store First.
What’s your full name and job title?
Alice Kaylor, store manager at Manchester Store First.
Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve had?
I worked with my sister at Route 66 drive-in cinema in Manchester, Trafford Park. We would order Domino’s pizza for the customers and ourselves with a cheeky discount and get to watch the current films in between taking orders and dealing with the customers. There were some long weekends, especially over winter. It wasn’t fun when it was raining!
If you could swap jobs with one person in the company, who would it be and why?
I would like to swap jobs with the manager of Glasgow, our largest centre, to experience what it is like to run a store on a larger scale.
What 3 words do you think best describe Store First?
Straightforward, exceptional service.
What 3 words do you think best describe you?
Passionate, talkative, motivated.
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve had to do here?
I had to wake a customer up who fell asleep after working all night in his unit.
What’s your favourite film?
Watership Down – I love the song Bright Eyes.
What’s your proudest moment at Store First?
Being promoted from sales assistant to store manager after being with the company for approximately 15 months.
What is an interesting, random fact about yourself?
I have a macroglossia tongue.
What’s your favourite place to travel to?
How do you define success?
I define success on my happiness.
If a film was made of your life, who would you want to play you and why?
Jennifer Tilly – I just love her in Chucky. However, I don’t think she quite has the right voice…
If you could be any person in history for a day, who would it be and why?
I would like to be John Lennon from The Beatles, because they looked like they all used to have a lot of fun!
If you could interview any person in history, who would it be and why?
I would interview Princess Diana to find out what really happened.
If you could only drink one drink for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Coke – the taste never gets old.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Pepperoni pizza, preferably stuffed crust. I love pizza!
If you could be an animal for a day, what animal would you be and why?
I would like to be a dolphin so I could swim all day, and dive in and out.
If you were stuck on an island and could only take 3 things with you, what would they be and why?
Mobile phone so I could watch programmes and films and talk to friends and family, a car so I could travel around the island and soap so I could stay clean.
Tell us something about yourself that people would be surprised to know.
I don’t think there is anything – I am quite open and honest.
Tell us a little about you and your family.
I am the youngest child and have 3 brothers and 1 sister. My mum and dad met when they were 15 and 20 and were married until my dad died when I was 14. My gran (on my mother’s side) is going to be 98 next month.
Who is your idol and why?
My gran is my idol. Even at 97 she is a fighter. She raised two young girls independently as her husband passed away at a young age. She had to hold down 3 jobs whilst managing a house and bills with no support.
What is your guilty pleasure?
What’s your favourite TV show?
What’s the oldest thing in your fridge?
A can of pop. No one knows whose it is…
Do you play any instruments or have any talents or hobbies?
I started to learn how to play the saxophone but it wasn’t for me.
Do you have any weird phobias?
I don’t know if it’s a phobia, but I don’t like certain foods touching each other on my plate. My mum’s learned and puts them on two plates.
If you could choose only one superpower, what superpower would you choose?
I would choose time travel so I could go back in time to change things that maybe could have gone better.
